As published on the website of Novo Nordisk Foundation, a Phase 1 clinical trial intended to reveal whether islet transplantation to the anterior eye chamber of people with type 1 diabetes could help restore insulin secretion to maintain glucose levels, is led by Professor Per-Olof Berggren at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded Karolinska Institutet up to DKK 10 million for the project.

Såsom har publicerats på Novo Nordisk Foundations webbplats leds en fas 1-studie av professor Per-Olof Berggren vid Karolinska Institutet i Sverige. Syftet med den kliniska studien är att undersöka om transplantation av Langerhanska cellöar till främre ögonkammaren hos personer med typ 1-diabetes kan hjälpa till att återställa insulinutsöndringen för att bibehålla glukosnivåer. Novo Nordisk Foundation har tilldelat projektet upp till 10 miljoner danska kronor.
