Spatial and temporal coordination of insulin granule exocytosis in intact human pancreatic islets.
Insulin secretion plays a central role in glucose homeostasis and diabetes. However, all aspects of the macroscopic secretory pattern at the cellular level are not totally clear. The results from a study presented in the December 2015 issue of Diabetologia, reveal how individual secretory events are coordinated to produce pulsatile insulin secretion from human islets.
